He was born during the depression years when the family was forced to move from town to town, wherever there was work. Clint started his own wandering at the age of 16 when he discontinued school to take up work in a factory. He succeedingly worked on the local riverboats, then at 17, he joined the Merchant Marines.
After working in the oil fields of Brownwood, Texas, Clint traveled to Long Beach, California, then on to Las Vegas, where he served as a deputy sheriff at the Sands Hotel. There, he came across different celebrities who inspired him to try his luck in Hollywood.
Clint Walker Cheyenne
Clint considered shooting his shot and as luck would have it, he was quickly introduced to Cecil B. DeMille, who took a liking to him and gave him a role in his then latest film, The Ten Commandments. Shortly thereafter, Clint was offered the role of “Cheyenne Bodie” in the series Cheyenne, which recorded for eight years.
Cheyenne made history as television’s first hourlong western and introduced Clint to the world as the jack-of-all-trades loner Cheyenne Brodie. Cheyenne placed Walker as one of the new medium’s biggest stars.
When Clint decided to quit Cheyenne, he was offered roles in a number of films, including None But The Brave, The Great Bank Robbery, Send Me No Flowers, The Dirty Dozen, Fort Dobbs, Yellowstone Kelly, Night Of The Grizzly, and Gold Of The Seven Saints. Clint, who has a beautiful singing voice, also recorded an album and ballads for Warner Bros.
Kodiak
Clint made another television series, Kodiak, after Cheyenne, and a number of features and movies for television, including Yuma, The Bounty Man, and Snowbeast. Then followed a freak accident at Mammoth Mountain, where Clint’s heart was pierced by a ski pole. In two months, Clint was back at work in Spain co-starring with the late Telly Savalas in another western, Pancho Villa.
Since then Clint was involved in other projects through the ’90s, such as a Kung Fu episode, The Gamblers Returns, and also joined some of his friends from The Dirty Dozen to work on voices for the production of Small Soldiers.
