Based on the best-selling novel by Robert James Waller, this romantic drama film was produced and written by Eastwood.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the plot for movie goes as follows:

“Set in 1965, it features Italian war bride, Francesca Johnson (Meryl Streep), who lives with her husband and two children on their Iowa farm. The same year she meets National Geographic photojournalist Robert Kincaid (Clint Eastwood). He visits Madison County to take photos of its historic covered bridges. A moving love story about a photographer on assignment to shoot the historic bridges of Madison County. After Francesca’s family leaves for brief getaway, the couple have a passionate love affair.”

In conclusion, the couple’s brief romantic encounter doesn’t amount to a happily ever after. Instead, reality sets in making them another case of soulmates who’ve met too late in life.

He meets a housewife, whose husband and children are away on a trip, and the film traces a brief affair that is never sordid but instead one of two soul mates who have met too late.

Well received by critics, the movie was also a huge success with fans. It ended up earning $182 million worldwide. In 1996, Streep was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress due to her performance.
